It seems with every new week, there comes a new rumour regarding the new Canon 5D. The latest and greatest rumour has the new 5D coming in with the following specs.
- Will be announced Monday, September 8, 2008
- MSRP: $2,399.95 (SSP: $2,199.95), body only
- 16MP FF sensor
- 6 FPS
- Max ISO 25,600 (for what it’s worth…it’s more for marketing)
- Full weather sealing
- VGA-resolution display (from same supplier Sony uses for their new Handycams, except in 4:3 aspect ratio here)
- Pop-up flash
- Anti-dust features
- NO Live View
- NO pro AF from 1D (although all points are cross-type)
- NO video mode whatsoever (silliest rumor I’ve ever heard)
- NO compatibility with EF-S lenses (physically impossible anyway)
- NO electronic crop mode for faster shot rate
- NO HDMI-out
- NO UDMA CF support
There are only 2 things on that list that excite me. Weather seals and 6FPS. 16MP sensor just means larger RAW files. I imagine it will use the latest processing chip that is in the 1D’s and the 40D. No Live View gets a thumbs up from me!

What it does mean is there will be some cheap pre-loved 5D “Classics” hitting the market in the not to distant future.
Im tipping the whole thing is just another persons guess. We’ll see soon enough I suppose.
……it must be Olympics time!
And with that comes some spectacular photographers BLOGs. Some of my favourites are :
Vincent LaForet’s Blog
Mark J Rebilas’ Blog
Dan Powers’ Blog
Alot of terrific photos and some great behind the scenes stuff. Although I am not sure if taking photos of the Womens Beach volleyball can be considered work!
Now that Flickr accepts video, (causing alot of people plenty of angst apparently) I thought I would try one myself.
It was cut short due to some rain, but I intend to do some more in the not to distant future.
A few people have asked how I did it. Well, it wasn’t exactly high tech. I just sat beside the camera, mounted on the tripod, attached the remote shutter release and clicked it every 10 seconds or so. Apparently you can tether the camera to a laptop and have the computer control it, but where is the fun in that?
For some time I have had a Blogger Blog, which integrates into Flickr quite well, but have always been intrigued by WordPress. It seems all the cool people are using it, including the very talented Mick Orlosky on his terrific BLOG, redfishingboat.com. I recommend it highly. After checking it out, I thought I might have a crack myself.
Luckily for me, it imports directly from Blogger, so know all my old content is here on my new site, in my very own part of the interweb. Now to have a play and tweak it a bit. Get ready to see the odd 404 error.
