After this mornings shenanigans with the Idiots Guide to photography, I thought it best to level the playing field with 10 very good tips on photography by Darren Rowse from DPS. This really is a worthwhile list for photographers. It might stop you from taking shots like this.

78 Photography Rules for Complete Idiots
Oh, how I chortled when I read some of these rules for complete idiots. I know quite a few people who rate themselves as photographers who should be reading this list.
Dive right in.
If you haven’t bookmarked the Boston Globe’s Big Picture web site yet, you really should do yourself a favour. Time after time they produce the goods.
In the latest batch of photos, we have people diving into water. Sounds a bit dull, but wait until you see the photos. From cliffs in Dubrovnik, to spring boards in Rome. Ruins in Baghdad, to the coolish waters of the Australian Antarctic.

Rollip – Create Polaroids from your photos!
First there was Poladroid, and now, a new piece of software to create faux ‘Roids out of any digital photo. I haven’t used it yet, so I have no idea how it works, but it does look the goods.
You could always buy a real Polaroid camera. 🙂

8 Tips for Photographing babies
Move over Anne Geddes, armed with a huge pumpkin, a sunflower and the guide below, I am going to take over the baby photography market.
Actually, I have had some success with baby photos before, but it is another job I wouldn’t want to do full time. I was lucky, young Jack was a fine looking little fellow (see photo below) and he had character from the moment I saw him. It was also a very laid back shoot, at the hospital he was born at, which made things even easier.
On the flip side to that. Can you imagine what some mothers are like? They would be directing you to make their baby look like an angel, and lets face it, there are some bloody ugly babies around. (I know, Satan may as well reserve me a spot for that comment.) Admit it, you have seen an ugly baby, there are too many of them for you not to have. Luckily, mothers are so overflowing with hormones, they usually think their child is a cherub, and it doesn’t matter if you dressed the baby in a hessian sack and plonked it on a welders bench, they would probably be happy. But there would still be the odd one that would make your life hell.
