EOS 7D, another new DSLR!
Another new EOS camera in the Canon range of DSLRs. The 1st xD series with a cropped sensor. Hmmm.
The Canon EOS 7D is packed with new features:
* 18 MP APS–C CMOS Sensor
Designed and manufactured by Canon, the sensor produces an outstanding image and offers fantastic performance at high and low conditions, thanks to a new photodiode and microlens construction.
* 8 fps image capture
Enabled by the Dual “DIGIC 4” processors and improved electrical system, photographers can capture images at 8fps, without the need for additional accessories and in all file types.
* ISO Range
The EOS 7D enables photographers to capture subjects in their natural light. The ISO range (100 – 6,400) is expandable to 12,800.
* EOS Movie
With improved operation, making it easy to switch directly to movie mode, it is now even simpler to shoot Full HD video. Users can set exposure and frame rate – with options for 24 fps to create that cinematic feel.
* Dual “DIGIC 4” processors
By utilising Dual “DIGIC 4” processors, users of the EOS 7D never have to compromise between shooting speed, image quality and ISO performance.
* Impressive Design
Canon has listened to photographer feedback when designing the body, as well as the internal technologies. A magnesium alloy body offers environmental protection – the tough, lightweight construction is designed to defend against moisture, and dust – equivalent to the legendary EOS–1N.
The camera is compatible with a wide range of accessories so it can easily be integrated with a photographer’s workflow. The Wireless File Transmitter (WFT-E5) allows extensive camera control via a web browser – allowing photographers to control the camera using a web-enabled mobile device.
The EOS 7D is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses as well as Canon EX Speedlites. The Canon EOS 7D can also be used with Battery BG-E7, and remote controllers and switches such as the remote Controller RC-1/RC-5.

Canon Photo5 opens next Monday!
It is that time of year again, time for Canon’s Photo5 competition. Opening for registration next Monday August 31, this competition is in its 3rd year, and I expect the registrations will go pretty quickly. So if you are up for a challenge, you had better jump in quick. The little cardboard boxes always seem to generate lots of chatter on photography forums all over Australia.
While you are over at the Canon website, check out the EOS Blog. It is worth a read.

Canon develops Hybrid image stabilization system
One for the techno nerds. Canon has developed a new Image Stabilising technology. From the press release.
Canon Inc. announced today the development of Hybrid Image Stabilizer (IS), the world’s first* optical Image Stabilizer which compensates for both angular camera shake and shift camera shake. The technology will be incorporated in an interchangeable single lens reflex (SLR) camera lens planned for commercial release before the end of 2009.
The little * in the above paragraph is a note to say it is a world first in interchangeable lenses. I think Pentax have had it in body for a while.
Reading about it, it sounds like a monkey on a trapeze can now take a sharp photo. That may be a slight exaggeration. I am not a huge fan of IS, but I am sure some people love it. See the link below for the good guts about it.

GeoTagging – or – No Matter Where You Go, There You Are
Geotagging your photos is a great idea. The problem is, it can be a pain in the arse to do. I do a lot of mine through Flickr and the Localize Bookmark, but it takes time and is hardly perfect. The JOBO photoGPS Geo-Data makes it a whole lot easier. See the link below for a great write up about Geotagging, the whys and hows.

Kwanon
According to Mental Floss, Canon started out as Kwanon.
When Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory started developing Japan’s first-ever 35mm camera equipped with a focal plane shutter, the engineers dubbed the creation “Kwanon” after the Buddhist goddess of mercy. At this point the company’s logo even included the thousand-armed goddess.
When the camera was ready to roll out worldwide in 1935, the company decided to tweak the name to “Canon” so it would be easier for international markets to accept.
Kwanon EOS 5D, sounds better to me. 🙂

Canon Employees Are Forbidden to Sit Down!
Thanks to Mick Orlosky, this little article will make you appreciate your work place. The lengths some managers go to to empower their staff. 🙁
You might think your job sucks, but at least your boss wasn’t insane enough to remove all the chairs and install security so an alarm goes off if you don’t walk fast enough.
