This weeks self portrait for the 52 Week Project was taken at sunset at Tilbury Cove. Pity the clouds came over, as it was a stunning site about 30 minutes beforehand when I rode past on the pushbike.

Once again, I set up the off camera flash.

Week 6 of the 52 week project, and I had left it til the last day to get a photo sorted. It has been a long day, and I was drawing a blank as far as ideas go. I have a few in the idea bank, but they all require props. So while I was sitting there drawing a blank on a photo, and blog posts, it came to me. A photo of me drawing a blank.

I even hooked up the off flash gear and go myself into norbist mode.

norbist setup: Camera with 12-24mm lens sitting on lap. Flash sitting precariously on top of a tissue box on top of the printer. Snooted through the 80-200f/2.8L lens. Black beanie behind it all trying to soak up reflected light. That nearly worked too.

High Speed Photography at Home

Quite a while back, I took some photos of a golf ball being dropped into a fish tank. They proved to be quite popular with a lot of people asking me how I did it. Well, the link below describes pretty much what I did, I just didn’t have automatic triggers.

News Flash! I want to learn how to use one.

Yes, you heard right, I would like to learn how to use a flash properly (not flash techniques, the actual workings of a flash. ETTL explained etc etc). I know, I have spent countless hours banging on about how the Strobist folks are the trainspotters of the photographic society, but I am looking at doing some more paid work, and I am tipping it will involve a flash at some stage. For now, I just want to be able to learn some of the basics. No off camera stuff just yet. Just how to use my current flash, a Sigma EF-500 DG Super (wow that sounds impressive), to its potential.
