whats the jackanory ?

After all the Tour de france posts thus far, I thought I would give it a rest on the cycling photography. That is until Keith (firsty) made a comment on a post about Andrew Hetherington’s excellent article on Brent Humphreys. Brent has spent some time shooting the Tour de France and the article below is a fantastic read.

Week 2 of the 52 weeks project.

It is a pretty special time of year for a person who loves sports. In France they are riding the 3500km, 3 week bike race around France and neighbouring countries. In England, or to be exact for the first Test, Wales, they are playing the Ashes cricket series.

This is a photo of me enjoying both of them, from the other side of the world. Taken at 30 minutes after mid night, you can see two TV windows on the left screen (The MacBook Pro laptop) and on the right screen is the live timing, and other information I keep an eye on during the coverage.

Considering 10 years ago we hardly got to see highlights of the Tour de France, it is a pretty big thing to watch it live.

God bless SBS, the Australian broadcaster for both events. Sure as hell beats Channel 9.

le Tour.

To my fan out there in internet land, this blog MAY slow down a little in the next few weeks due to the fact that in a little over 24 hours, a few blokes will race push bikes around France. One of the few disadvantages of living at GPS coordinates -34.9,150.7 is that the Tour de France is on late at night here. Usually starting transmission at 10PM and winding up at about 2am. Sadly, this coincides with the times I do most of my posting to the blog. So, if you find things a little slow, why not have a look at the Tour. Even better, check out the fantastic photos at The Boston Globes site, The Big Picture. One set here, and another here.

As you can see from above, there are some wonderful photos of what is a stunning piece of the earth.
